Pantoum

A pantoum is a style of poetry that has a lot of repetition.

Start by writing a 4 line stanza. Take the 2nd and the 4th lines of the first stanza and make them lines 1 and 3 in the second stanza. Then take line 2 and 4  in the second stanza and make them lines 1 and 3 in the 3rd stanza. You will continue this pattern for your poem. When you reach your last stanza fo back to the first stanza of your poem. You will then make line 3 of your first stanza line 2 of your last. You will also make line 1 of the first stanza line 4 in your last

Example: I Saw You

I saw you and I knew you

You didn’t see me

I was like a ghost in the wind

I held my breath and waited

You didn’t see me

The world spun around

I held my breath and waited

I wanted to speak

The world spun around

I felt dizzy

I wanted to speak

I tried to reach out

I felt dizzy

You were right in front of me

I tried to reach out

But you slipped through my grasp

I let you go

I was like a ghost in the wind

Hiding in the breeze

I saw you and I knew you
